Whidbey Is. Highland Games - Aug. 5-9

On Wednesday, Dillon and I headed out with Kelly and the redheads as well as my other grandson, Joshua, to get a head start on the fun weekend activities at Whidbey Island Highland Games. We did a little shopping at Bellis Fair Mall and then had dinner at the Old Country Buffet. Where else would we eat with the two bottomless pits that 10 YO. and 16 YO. boys are! We then picked up some groceries and other necessities before heading over to Swinomish Casino for a free night of camping.

Early the next morning we headed over to Fort Eby State Park for some more fun. The kids had fun exploring the tunnels there that are the remains of the old gun battery of the Fort. We did some walking along the trails on the bluffs overlooking to ocean. We ran into some people with their Pot Bellied Pig Layla. It brought back memories of our friend Gloria’s pig “Harley” and similarly resembled Henry LOL! Ivy fell in love with Layla and had a great time feeding her Cheezies that her owner provided.

Friday afternoon we headed over to Green Bank Farm where the Games were being held to be joined there by Kara and the rest of the Scott crowd, as well as Dale and a dancing friend Amanda. We soon had a nice little campsite set up with all the tents and the Navion as home base. There was a lot of FUN and some great dancing done on Saturday with Miss Meghan & Keaton, Jonathan & his family, as well as Grandma & Grandpa Scott joining us for the day.

It was a long hot day and then everyone headed home, Kara a little later than she wanted to because of a flat tire on her van when we returned to “Camp”! After Dale fixed it and sent her on her way we started out. A few miles up the road the Navion started giving us trouble - not shifting - something it had done in the past but as soon as you shut it off and restart it - it fixes itself. Well this time it didn’t! It put itself into what we later learned was “LHM” - Limp Home Mode - yes an actual term! It was late so we limped the 20 miles to Swinomish Casino to spend the night - a feat that took about an hour. The next day we had some serious decisions to make. Do we limp south along the I-5 area and try to find somewhere to get it fixed - something that probably wouldn’t happen on a Sunday. Someone would have to drive down and pick up most of us because Dale had to work at 4:00 AM Monday morning and I would have to remain with the Rig. Not wanting to be left making all the decisions on getting it fixed I voted that we limp North along all the back roads and try to make it home. This is what we did - we limped the 60M/100KM’s back to the border and home. It ONLY took 31/2 hours!
