Off The Grid - Wednesday to Friday

The "Mother Road"
We left Lake Havasu up the 95 and headed back north (I know a scary thought!) but we wanted to get onto the old “Mother Road - Route 66”.
Reaching the I-40, we headed towards Topock but seeing the sign for the old ghost town of Oatman there was a detour again.

They were "Wild" Burro's alright!
Oatman was interesting but packed - a typical tourist trap. We did a walk through it, shopped a little, caught the tailend of a shoot-out with the Sheriff and a couple of bandits (not real - a show they put on!), and conversed with a few of the “Wild” burro’s that roam through town looking for food that you can buy and feed to them in almost every store and stall in town.

The "Main" side road where we turned off.
We continued up the road towards Bullhead City - approx. 13 miles. About three miles out of town there was another backroad which we love so that’s the way we headed. A rough, washboard road it was but a beautiful scenic drive. About 8 miles in we saw another, even rougher road down into a little valley so down it we went.

The "side" road down to our little Oasis where we spent 2 1/2 Wonderful Days!
We found a nice little spot just off this side road in the middle of nowhere and staked a claim! We had 2 1/2 glorious days doing absolutely nothing but laying in the sun. We did a little hike to the top of one of the surrounding hills but other than that (and a few photo taking sessions) absolutely NOTHING! We had a couple of land surveyors trucks come by as well as a number of quads and dirt bikers but other than that we were completely alone. We didn’t even see any wild burro’s although there was lots of “evidence” they were around. It was hard to give up this little bit of Paradise but we had another Harvest Host we wanted to see up in Death Valley as well as join another WIT group from California on a Get-away.
The Sunset on the hills behind us.

Our Desert Paradise!
